Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter is University Professor of Jewish History and Jewish Thought and Senior Scholar at the Center for the Jewish Future at Yeshiva University. He previously served as Dean of the Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik Institute in Boston and as the longtime rabbi of The Jewish Center in New York City’s West Side.
Dr. Schacter holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and received rabbinic ordination from Mesivta Torah Vodaath. He is the founding editor of the Torah U’Maddah Journal, a publication exploring the relationship between Judaism and modernity. He has written widely on topics relating to Jewish tradition and the challenges it has confronted in the past and today.
On Friday night at 9:00 pm Rabbi Schacter's presentation will be "Did Moshe Rabbenu Know Everything?: Printing and the Unfolding of Human Knowledge".
On Shabbat Morning, his presentation will be "On the Morality of the Patriarchs: Must Biblical Heroes Be Perfect?" and on Shabbat afternoon, "New Manuscript Deiscoveries and the Halakhic Process: On Standing for the Aseret ha-Dibrot".
